John Cena Allegedly Won’t Ever Match WWE Icon’s Legacy
John Cena is regarded as one of the greats in the professional wrestling business. But according to a veteran, he can never be as great as Hulk Hogan.
Cena is on the verge of retirement after a two-decade-long career. He is set to face AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on October 11, 2025. After that, he has very few matches left on his farewell tour. His last match will take place at Saturday Night Main Event on December 13, 2025, at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine, veteran Bill Apter compared John Cena to one of the biggest legends pro wrestling has ever seen, saying that Cena (or any other star like Logan Paul) could never reach the same level of greatness as The Hulkster.
“I argue with Times when they say that John Cena was, they say he was the greatest champion? (…) If you talk about Logan Paul, as great as he might get as a babyface? He will never achieve, and no one else that I know of will achieve what the lifetime of what Hulk Hogan achieved. You are gonna remember the name Hulk Hogan for ages and ages to come.”
Hulk Hogan died of a heart attack (acute myocardial infarction) on July 24, 2025, at the age of 71 in Clearwater, Florida. His death was sudden, following a period of reported health issues and prior major neck surgery.
John Cena Shouldn’t Face Brock Lesnar
Speaking on Busted Open, veteran Bully Ray shared he believes Brock Lesnar and John Cena shouldn’t have another match, unlike many fans want. Because the bout would make no sense. It would not benefit either wrestler or provide any meaningful narrative impact.
He explained that Lesnar already destroyed Cena at Wrestlepalooza 2025 to re-establish himself as an unstoppable force. If Cena were to win a rematch now, it would be a hollow achievement.
“It’s pro wrestling, anything can happen, but I think that if John would have faced Brock again, it doesn’t do anything for anybody. Yay! John got a win. Who cares? I’d rather see John beat somebody else than beat Brock. Brock destroyed John already, and that was so Brock can move on. Somebody is going to eventually beat Brock, and it’s going to mean even more because Brock destroyed Cena.”
