John Cena’s WWE Backlash Match To Have Unique Tagline

John Cena WWE

A new report suggests that John Cena’s WWE Title match at Backlash will feature an interesting tagline.

John Cena became the WWE Champion for a record-breaking 17th time when he used the help of rapper Travis Scott to defeat Cody Rhodes.

When he appeared on Raw After WrestleMania to brag about his 17th WWE World Title win, John Cena claimed to the fans that he would be the final WWE Champion because he was going to retire as the champion in December. After his promo, Randy Orton showed up from behind and dropped his former rival John Cena with an RKO, much to the delight of the crowd.

There is a long history between Cena and Orton, dating back to when they started training together in WWE developmental 25 years ago. They also made their main roster debuts in the spring of 2002. As on-screen rivals, they wrestled many times, oftentimes for the WWE Title, and many fans will remember their rivalry forever.

The WWE Backlash PLE is scheduled to take place on May 10th in St. Louis, which is Orton’s hometown. According to Wrestlevotes on X, the Cena-Orton match will be billed as “One Last Time,” with Orton challenging Cena for a final time.

Surprise, surprise: The main event of Backlash is set to be John Cena vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship—billed as “one last time.”

This will be their first singles match since 2/11/17, when they headlined a house show in New Mexico.

John Cena Appearing On SmackDown After WrestleMania

During his Raw After WrestleMania promo, John Cena announced that he would appear at 36 WWE shows in 2025, his final year as a wrestler. As of Monday’s Raw, that number is at 27.

You can put that number down one spot further because SmackDown GM Nick Aldis confirmed on X that Cena will be on the first SmackDown After WrestleMania in Fort Worth, Texas. It’s possible that Randy Orton will also be there, which could lead to more fireworks, while Aldis could make their Backlash match official.

Other matches set for SmackDown in Fort Worth include The Street Profits defending the Tag Team Titles against Motor City Machine Guns & #DIY in TLC Match for the Tag Team Titles and Chelsea Green defending the Women’s US Title against Zelina Vega, who pinned Green in a non-title match to earn a title match.
