Huge John Cena WrestleMania Bout Hasn’t Been Discussed Since WWE Regime Change

John Cena and Vince McMahon

While there was a pitch for John Cena to face a top WWE star at WrestleMania, those plans haven’t been discussed since Triple H came into power.

As the Royal Rumble approaches, WWE fans are looking ahead to WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles. The two night event is sure to be a star-studded affair, and while there is speculation that both John Cena and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could appear, their statuses are still uncertain at this time.

While The Rock hasn’t appeared in WWE in some time, John Cena wrestled on the last SmackDown of 2022, earning a tag team victory alongside Kevin Owens as they defeated Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.

Cena’s in-ring return has only served to fuel speculation about his WrestleMania status, and a new report from Fightful Select provides insight as to the internal discussion about his involvement. According to the report, nothing Vince McMahon had in mind for the event is still being considered after his retirement and Triple H coming into power.

While there was previously discussion about John Cena heading toward a clash with Austin Theory, that discussion has recently shifted to a potential bout with Logan Paul, who’s previously expressed interest facing Cena. Other top talents have reportedly been angling for a match with Cena as far back as July.

The Fightful Select report goes on to reveal that during Vince McMahon’s regime, there was a pitch for John Cena to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, but that hasn’t been discussed since Triple H took over from Vince McMahon. The report also notes that while it was previously assumed that Rhodes would be challenging for the WWE Title on the Grandest Stage Of Them All, there has never been confirmation of that being the plan.
