John Cena Vs Cody Rhodes Would Be “Biggest Match In Wrestling”
A WWE Hall of Famer wants to see John Cena make history.
With the Royal Rumble just around the corner, the ‘Road To WrestleMania’ is well underway. Aside from the usual speculation centred around The Rock, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk, WrestleMania 41 will mark John Cena’s last match at the event after he announced his intention to retire in 2025.
As soon as Cena announced he’d be bringing his career to an end, fans wondered whether he might get one more chance to become World Champion. In WWE’s record books, Cena is currently tied for the most wins on 16 alongside Ric Flair.
So excitement went into overdrive when it was revealed that John Cena could challenge Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania with the Undisputed WWE Title on the line. As a result, Rhodes’ showdown with The Rock is now officially off, despite teases going back to the lead-up to WrestleMania 40.
JBL Would Love To See John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes
Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL gave his thoughts on Cena’s impending retirement and involvement at WrestleMania. Looking ahead to the spectacular, the veteran said he’d love to see Cena break Flair’s record by dethroning Rhodes.
Cena famously beat JBL to win his first World Championship at WrestleMania 21.
“I’d love to see Cody. Obviously. I’d love to see against Cody for the title. I think that’s the biggest matchup in wrestling. I think it’d be fantastic. I think those two guys, they’re both very smart guys, and I think that would be absolutely incredible. But if it’s Randy, if it’s Brock, if it’s Roman, I mean, Cena is not going to have a bad match, I promise you that.
All those guys I mentioned can really work. But I’d love to see him against Cody, you know, headline WrestleMania for the title. Nobody knows what’s going to happen. Is he going to break the famous record or not? I think that’d be incredible.”
Cena made his most recent WWE appearance on the January 6th edition of Raw where he declared himself for the Royal Rumble.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Logan Paul pitched a match with John Cena, but this was rejected.
