John Cena Shares Vince McMahon’s View On Family Ties

John Cena

John Cena has made clear that he has one thing in common with his old WWE boss, Vince McMahon.

John Cena is set to have the final match of his legendary WWE career at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th. Cena will find out on the December 5th edition of SmackDown which star he will face as Gunther and LA Knight are set to go head-to-head in the Last Time Is Now tournament.

Cena has been a top star in the company for over 20 years and has Vince McMahon to thank for his rise to the pinnacle of the industry. And it seems McMahon’s influence is all over Cena, both in and out of the ring.

Don’t Call John Cena A Junior

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, John Cena spoke about recently being given his own day in his home state of Massachusetts. When Kimmel referred to his father as “John Cena Sr.”, he was quickly corrected by the 17-time WWE Champion:

He’s John Joseph, I’m John Felix Anthony. It’s weird. He’s not a senior, I’m not a junior.

While technically correct, it’s hard to imagine that Cena’s stance on senior and junior titles wasn’t influenced by Vince McMahon. Vincent Kennedy McMahon followed in his father’s footsteps when he took over the running of WWE in the early 1980s. Colloquially referred to as “Junior” by his father’s business associate, it’s long been said that McMahon hated that nickname, and that is why he constantly reminded people of his middle name.
