John Cena’s “Very Unlikable” Heel Promo Praised By Ex-WWE Star
A legendary former WWE superstar has good things to say about John Cena’s first heel promo.
The heel turn by John Cena at WWE Elimination Chamber remains the biggest topic in the world of wrestling. That’s not a surprise considering was the biggest star in pro wrestling over the last 20+ years and he is finally back in the heel role that he was last in back in 2003.
It was this past Monday on WWE Raw in Belgium when Cena finally had time in his busy schedule to address the fans about why he did what he did when he kicked the WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the groin to set off the heel turn.
During a show opening promo where Cena was booed loudly, Cena said he was “breaking up” with the WWE Universe after being in an abusive relationship with the fans.
In Cena’s opinion, he worked hard and he won a lot of matches, yet that wasn’t good enough for the fans that loved to chant “Cena sucks” at him even when he was the biggest babyface in the world.
Throughout the promo, the crowd could be heard chanting “shut the f**k up” at Cena while Cody Rhodes confronted Cena and called Cena a “whiny bi**h” to end it.
Matt Hardy Enjoyed John Cena’s Heel Turn Promo
The fiery promo from John Cena on Raw surprisingly didn’t even mention The Rock, who was a big part of Cena’s turn at Elimination Chamber.
Matt Hardy is a former WWE superstar who spent a lot of time with Cena on the road on the WWE roster. Hardy praised Cena’s promo on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, but Hardy did mention Cena not mentioning Rock as something that was a bit of a surprise.
“I liked it. I think what I liked about it the most is the fact that he didn’t change and the explanation he gave for it is that people are asking what are we going to get that is new, what are we going to get that is new, what’s new, new, new, what are we going to get and he’s like, ‘You don’t get anything. You get this. Keep in mind, I don’t dress like you, you dress like me.’ I dug that.
Probably the only thing I would be critical of is just maybe if they would have kind of delved into why he chose to side with Rock like that, that would have been the only thing I feel like I would’ve loved to heard from.
I dug it man, I thought he did a real good job at just being a whiny, bitchy guy who just felt like he’d been wronged and he came off very unlikable while doing it, which is I think what you need out of John Cena.”
John Cena and Cody Rhodes are both advertised for the March 24th WWE Raw episode in Glasgow, so it should be another intense promo exchange by two men who will lock horns in the main event of WrestleMania 41 with Cody’s WWE Title on the line.
