John Cena To Drop WWE Title To 4-Time Champion, Not Dominik Mysterio?

John Cena WWE Intercontinental Champion

John Cena has two more matches left in his Farewell Tour.

His next match is against Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series 2025. He will place the Intercontinental Championship on the line against The Judgment Day member.

Following Survivor Series, his next match will be his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th, 2025.

John Cena might hold on to the Intercontinental Championship till SNME

The Champ’s final opponent is being decided via a ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament. Now, WWE might be leaning towards Gunther becoming John Cena’s final match, and it is possible Cena will hold on to the championship till Saturday Night’s Main Event.

On an episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru, Jim Cornette laid out a situation where John Cena retains the championship at Survivor Series, and then drops it to Gunther at SNME.

Therein lies the problem because the Last Time is Now. The last actual match is gonna be December 13 on Saturday Night’s Main Event, which is not gonna be as important an event now that it is just on Peacock or whatever, than a big show like Survivor Series. At the same time, I was thinking Gunther is gonna win this tournament, and maybe Cena puts Gunther over on the way out. Now Cena’s got the Intercontinental Title. Is that a way to get the Intercontinental Title back to Gunther so that he has some bragging rights? We haven’t established whether or not it would have to be for the title now.

John Cena’s final match needs to have more momentum than Survivor Series, and dropping the championship to Dominik Mysterio isn’t helping it.
