John Cena Tipped to Break WWE Record Before Retirement
John Cena should go out on a high.
According to WWE record keepers, Ric Flair won the World Championship a record 16 times. A record that has since been equalled by John Cena. While most historians claim Flair climbed to the top of the mountain on more than 20 occasions, WWE has settled on the number 16.
Ever since Cena announced he’ll be retiring in 2025, wrestlers past and present have been queuing up to face the star, while others think he should have a final run with the World Title.,
WWE Legend Wants To See John Cena Win Number 17
Another veteran has now added their voice to the calls for Cena to win that record-breaking 17th World Title.
During the latest episode of Something to Wrestle, JBL said he’d love to see Cena win the World Championship one more time before he retires, adding that he’s going to be sad to see him go.
Cena actually beat the WWE Hall of Famer to claim his first World Title back at WrestleMania 21 in 2005.
“It’s so cool when you’re saying goodbye to these incredible legends, and I’d put Cena up there with Dr. J. That’s about as big of a compliment as you can get. It’s also kind of bittersweet. Cena, I love the guy.
I hope he gets the seventeenth championship. I think it’d be cool to see that broken. I think it’d be historic, it’d be fun. I just hate that he’s retiring. I’m gonna love every second of it, but I wish guys like that were with us forever, and he will be with us forever, he just won’t be in an active role.
He might always do stuff down the line, but as far as in-ring competition, regular stuff, he’s retiring, which it’s kind of cool. What an incredible career,”
John Cena vs. Roman Reigns?
The comments from JBL come after Kurt Angle said Roman Reigns should be the man to retire John Cena. Furthermore, he said the match should be for one of WWE’s two World Championships.
Reigns and Cena last met in the ring on the December 30th, 2022 edition of SmackDown when Cena teamed with Kevin Owens against the Tribal Chief and Sami Zayn. Their most recent singles bout came at SummerSlam 2021 where Reigns defeated Cena to retain the Universal Championship.
