What John Cena Really Thought Of Zack Ryder’s WWE Return
John Cena has given his honest assessment of Zack Ryder’s controversial return to WWE.
LA Knight was left in the dark about who his opponent would be in the Last Time Is Now tournament on SmackDown. To the shock of everyone, that opponent turned out to be former WWE Intercontinental Champion, Zack Ryder. Knight defeated Long Island Iced Z to move on in the tournament, but all the talk afterwards was about Ryder.
Zack Ryder is now better known as Matt Cardona, and he has been vocal in the past about the fact that he considers his Zack Ryder character to be dead and that he’d only want to return to WWE under his own name. Cardona did recently appear under his name as part of TNA’s invasion of NXT, but WWE clearly decided they wanted the Zack Ryder character for the John Cena tournament.
John Cena Rooting For Zack Ryder
Speaking on the Raw Recap, John Cena explained why he was delighted to see Zack Ryder make a surprise return to WWE:
I was very, very glad to see Zack Ryder come back. Matt is a personal friend of mine, I can speak candidly like that, and I’ve seen his mind grow.
You wanna talk about always being curious and the quest for growth, the Zack Ryder I knew from a long time ago has accrued so much sports entertainment wisdom. It’s amazing when we have interactions, he’ll tell me about his journey and be like ‘this is what you were trying to talk about before and I wasn’t ready to understand it.’
I like rooting for people who are humble enough to admit when they’re wrong, and always want to grow, and are doing things for the greater good of the business. Matt is certainly one of those guys, his wife, Chelsea (Green), is one of those folks, who take an opportunity and get the absolute best out of it.
I was really happy to see Zack Ryder back.
Another name from Cena’s past made his shock return to WWE on Raw to be part of the Last Time Is Now tournament, where they faced Solo Sikoa.
