John Cena Makes Shocking Confession: “I Don’t Like Wrestling”

John Cena WWE Last Time

John Cena has drawn a firm line between WWE and professional wrestling.

In just four months, John Cena will officially wrestle his last match and retire from life as a WWE Superstar.

From the moment that Cena made the announcement that he’ll retire at the end of 2025, he’s remained adamant that he won’t be making any special comebacks. Although he will remain open to appearing on television.

During an appearance on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, Cena looked ahead to life following his retirement. McMahon pointed out that while Cena doesn’t want to be a “legacy persona,” he’ll always be that, because of who he is.

Cena responded that it isn’t his goal to be a WWE personality, but that doesn’t mean he also won’t advocate for the company.

“A goal of mine isn’t to be an unforgettable personality. But I will say, I love WWE. There are a lot of people who do, and I love it as much as anyone. Not more, as much as anyone can love something. The WWE, I love it as much as anyone does.

Every interview, every movie set, all I do is “This is just like WWE guys! I used to think they were different.” I channel all of my experiences through the crucible that I’ve been through, and I’ll never not love it.

No matter who owns it, no matter who runs it, no matter who the Superstars are, no matter if I don’t know them, whether I’m caught up on programming or I’m not.”

Cena went on to add more context by comparing his love of WWE to his love of working out and lifting weights. He said that while he might now be on the down slope when it comes to performance, that doesn’t mean his love has changed.

He was also keen to draw a distinction between WWE and wrestling more generally.

“I’m not going to go out and badmouth the thing that I love. I don’t use the word wrestling. I use the words WWE. I don’t like wrestling. I like — I love WWE specifically. It’s where I belong.

So as long as that’s a sentiment in my life, I’m always going to try and get people to watch, try and get people to experience, and get invested in it. It’s made my life this crazy f*cking rollercoaster.”

John Cena Issues Brock Lesnar Denial

Speaking elsewhere, John Cena distanced himself from Triple H’s claims that he was invovled in Brock Lesnar’s WWE comeback. Lesnar made a surprise return to the company at SummerSlam to attack Cena as the show went off the air.

Lesnar had been absent for two years being named in Janel Grant’s sex trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE.

During the SummerSlam post-show, Triple H suggested that Lesnar had been brought back at the request of Cena who wanted to wrestle him again before he retired. However, Cena dismissed this, stating that he continues to work with whoever the company chooses.

Both Cena and Lesnar are expected to appear on the August 8 edition of SmackDown.
