John Cena Explains Why He Settled On Unique Look In WWE

John Cena WWE Promo Red

The Jorts look has been with John Cena for decades and it turns out the former WWE Champion has a good reason why he still rocks the Jorts.

John Cena is arguably one of the greatest WWE superstars of all-time, which is something the company says on television often and even WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque believes it as well.

While Cena is known for being humble, he is obviously aware of his impact on the WWE Universe as the top star in the company for over a decade.

At the WWE Money in the Bank PLE in Toronto, John Cena made an unadvertised appearance to announce that the year 2025 will be his last as an active WWE superstar. Cena made it clear that he’ll be a part of the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in 2025 while likely ending his run toward the end of 2025.

During his WWE career, Cena has been known to change t-shirt and hat colors often, but he’s also a man who wears Jorts when he has matches in a ring.

Why Did John Cena Choose To Wrestle In Jorts For So Many Years?

John Cena started on WWE’s main roster in 2002. He was in regular wrestling tights when he debuted, but as the years went on, he started wearing Jorts (jean shorts) in the ring. Even at the age of 47, Cena still wrestles in jorts even though it might look ridiculous to some people.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the former 16-time WWE World Champion Cena explains why jorts have been his outfit of choice in a WWE ring.

“The reason I wear jorts is because I’ve tried everything. Denim is really durable—it doesn’t rip a lot as long as you can find a good fit. I don’t need any families attending a WWE event looking at my ugly bit. All you need to do is find something that fits around the butt and the thigh, because I always wear a drawstring belt.”

“A belt buckle, you can really get messed up on. I’ve learned this through failure. It can stab you, it can scratch you, it can scrape you and it can also cause damage to opponents and referees. This is not a good piece of equipment.”

During the WWE press conference after Money in the Bank, Cena noted he was filming the hit TV show Peacemaker. It’s unknown when he’ll return to the ring again, but as he said on Saturday, he’ll definitely be back in 2025 for his final full year as an active WWE superstar.
