John Cena Confirms Second Career Ending After WWE Retirement
John Cena is scheduled to retire from active in-ring competition in December 2025.
Cena is considered one of the GOATs of wrestling. He also has a flourishing acting career. But did you know that Cena had a music career as well?
John Cena’s early WWE persona was the “Doctor of Thuganomics,” where he showcased his rapping skills by performing freestyle raps in promos and before matches.
His rap gimmick involved not just music but also battle rap-style insults directed at his opponents, helping him stand out and connect with fans.
He even crafted his own theme song, “The Time is Now,” which became iconic and synonymous with his character. He has produced many songs and albums for WWE.
In fact, John Cena’s rapping helped save his WWE career by giving him a unique identity and eventually led to his rise as one of WWE’s most popular stars in the business.
John Cena Is No Longer Interested In Pursuing Music As A Profession
During a recent Q&A Panel at Liverpool, John Cena was asked if the fans would get to see more of his musical side after his retirement.
The Last Real Champion refused, claiming that he’s also retired from his professional music career and only sings for his personal pleasure.
Host: You had so many musical numbers that again, we can’t really repeat here, but you can carry a hell of a tune, and you’ve done your own theme songs in WWE. Is there a more musical side of John Cena that we might see someday?
Not that you’ll see. I think that the music is for me. I also think now in a day and age where, like, we share everything, we want to make sure the world knows exactly what we’re doing.
I believe there’s a bunch of equity in keeping things for you because you don’t do it for any other reason other than yourself. There is a musical side to me. None of you will ever see it. (From 14:14)
