Former John Cena Rival Reacts To WWE Retirement Announcement
A WWE superstar who knows John Cena very well has given his thoughts on Cena’s retirement plans.
The Money in the Bank PLE in Toronto was filled with a lot of excitement, but perhaps the most memorable moment was when John Cena made an unannounced appearance.
During his speech, John Cena announced his WWE retirement plan. Cena announced that 2025 will be his last year as an active WWE competitor. Cena made it clear that Royal Rumble 2025 and WrestleMania 41 2025 will be his last time competing at those shows. Later at a press conference, Cena made it clear that he planned to wrestle until having his last match at some point in late 2025, most likely in December.
One of Cena’s biggest WWE rivals was The Miz, who defeated Cena in the controversial main event of WrestleMania 27 in 2011. The Miz won thanks to The Rock, but a win is a win and The Miz was happy to take it.
In an interview with TV Insider, The Miz reacted to the news of Cena’s retirement.
“It’s crazy, right? Never did I think he would say he would retire, that WrestleMania 41 will be his last WrestleMania. Then he’ll have some matches after. That’s just like John Cena, right? He is like, “I’m not just going to do WrestleMania. I’m going to do all these events.” I think it’s so great for the younger generation who will hopefully get to work with him. I selfishly would like to work with him one more time.”
“Everyone wants to be John Cena’s last match. Everyone wants to be part of it, especially when you think about what he has done for the business and WWE. Not only in the ring but outside as well. How many Make-A-Wish wishes has he granted? The example he has set for superstars like myself.”
The Miz Credits John Cena For Teaching Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes is in the top spot these days as the Undisputed WWE Champion. The Miz is a close friend of Rhodes and he mentioned Cena when talking about Cody’s spot in the company.
“You need to be the hardest working in the room to be at the top. Now you look at who is at the top. It’s Cody Rhodes, and he is doing his own version of it. He is taking what he was taught by John Cena and taking it to his level.”
It’s unknown when John Cena will return to WWE television because he’s currently filming season two of his Max show Peacemaker. Even though Cena will be retired from wrestling, he’s still going to be a part of WWE long-term and perhaps for the rest of his life.
