John Cena Retains Title Amid Chaotic Finish To WWE Night Of Champions
John Cena and his controversial winning ways continued at WWE Night of Champions.
In a match that erupted in chaos, Cena took advantage of an interference from Seth Rollins to beat CM Punk in the main event.
In front of a packed house in Riyadh, the veterans started their match with grapples.
As the battle escalated, both men executed their vintage moves.
Punk kicked out of three Attitude Adjustments, whereas the Undisputed WWE Champion survived one GTS.
Rollins appeared when Punk had the upper hand in the match, but was not dressed to wrestle. He unleashed Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed on his nemesis.
The match also witnessed interference from Penta and Sami Zayn, who have had issues with Rollins’ faction lately.
Rollins hit Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase and nailed him with a curb stomp. Cena, however, threw Rollins out of the ring to pin Punk. He escaped before Rollins could cash in.
John Cena To Face Cody Rhodes At SummerSlam
John Cena’s victory over Punk means that he will face Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, who was crowned King of the Ring earlier in the night.
Cena had defeated Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to win a record 17th world championship.
