John Cena Drops Pipe Bomb On CM Punk, Mentions AEW Star

John Cena WWE

As CM Punk lay in the ring as uncomfortably as possible, John Cena delivered his own pipe bomb, which included naming an AEW star.

In 2011, CM Punk set the match to light the spark on the Summer of Punk when he dropped the famous “Pipe bomb” promo on John Cena ahead of their iconic WWE Title match at Money In The Bank. Punk vowed to win the title and leave the company with it, which he did for a week.

14 years later, John Cena is once again WWE Champion, CM Punk is his challenger but this time its Cena threatening to walk out with the gold, which he’ll do if he’s still holding the gold when his final run ends at the end of 2025.

Now, Cena will put the title on the line at Night of Champions, but on the June 20th edition of SmackDown, the 17-time champion had something to say to Punk.

John Cena got himself disqualified against Ron Killings and continued his assault after the bout. CM Punk made the save but ended up being snapped through a Slim Jim table in the middle of the ring. And as Punk lay there, he could do nothing to stop Cena dropping a pipe bomb of his own.

WWE Don’t Cut John Cena’s Mic

With a slightly goofier tone than Punk’s own pipe bomb, Cena questioned Punk’s values, which he said he changes as often as Cena brings out a new shirt. Cena waved down the camera to break the fourth wall as Punk had done and while Punk waved and said hello to his then-friend Colt Cabana, John Cena noted Punk stepped on the necks of others to get ahead before saying hello to AEW star Claudio Castagnoli, TNA’s Nic Nemeth, and Matt Cardona.
