John Cena Opens Up About Prospect Of Retirement

John Cena WWE Talk

John Cena is looking forward to his retirement run.

At Money In The Bank, John Cena shocked the world when he announced his retirement. As the initial shock began to wear off Cena explained that 2025 would be his last as a professional wrestler.

In the hours after the show it was confirmed that Cena plans to compete from January to December before hanging up his boots. Despite his in-ring retirement, it’s been widely reported that Cena will remain “part of the WWE family.”

During a new interview with ExtraTV, Cena was asked whether his retirement feels bittersweet, before explaining that he’s looking to have fun.

“It’s going to be fun. Not bittersweet for me, it’s going to be fun. I’m so grateful that I’m in a position where I still have my health and I’m able to carve out a large section of time and perform for a year, from January to December, and give everyone a heads up.

A lot of times in WWE, sometimes injuries force retirement all of a sudden. One day you’re there, the next day you’re gone, or sometimes you say you’re going to retire and it’s part of the bit. You attack somebody and get a shot at the championship.

This is my way, for an audience that has made me who I am, after 23 years of investment, to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to give you six months, that’s your warning. In January, we’re going on tour and in December, I’m hanging them up. Let’s all get together at various spots around the world the next calendar year and get loud and rowdy one more time,’

New Champion Tells John Cena To “Grow Some Balls”

Ever since Cena announced his retirement, WWE stars have been lining up to try and get their shot at the legend. However, some have been more forceful than others.

Speaking ahead of SummerSlam, Bron Breakker took his shot at John Cena, telling him to “grow some balls.”

Interestingly, although very limited, the pair do have a history dating back to Breakker’s time in NXT. The upstart talked trash to Cena on an episode of the show back in October and ended up narrowly escaping an AA.

At SummerSlam, Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn to win the Intercontinental Championship.
