John Cena Open To Facing The Rock In His WWE Final Match

The Rock John Cena WWE

Every time John Cena and the Rock enter the ring together, they create magic.

Their different wrestling styles made their WrestleMania 28 & 29 matches outlandish, yet very well-liked.

Not to forget, during their “Once in a Lifetime” match build-up towards WM XXVIII, the duo even paired to face the Miz and R-Truth at SummerSlam 2011.

In recent times, the Rock’s appearances have been only sporadic, the last coming at the 2025 Elimination Chamber PLE.

At the time, John Cena was two months into his retirement tour and turned heel for the first time in two decades. Since then, there has been speculation that The Last Boss could be Cena’s final opponent in WWE.

The 17-time world champion was at Fan Expo Denver recently, where he was asked about ending his wrestling career in a “fantasy booking” against The Rock.

While Cena admitted that the bout had a nice ring to it, he said that he didn’t believe in setting expectations.

Gosh. Fantasy booking. For those who are not inside baseball, fantasy booking is when you take an idea in your head and you’re like, ‘Man, it would be cool if…’ That’s what I’m hearing here. ‘Man, it would be cool if John Cena could fight The Rock one more time.’ And that, to me, that would be cool.

I’ve survived and kept a level head over 25 years in the WWE by not setting expectations, by showing up every single day, doing what I’m told, and asking to do it to the best of my ability. [H/T: RingsideNews]

John Cena Is Not A Fan Of Choosing Opponents

During his more than two-decade-long career, John Cena has earned a reputation as a workhorse, albeit with focus on discipline.

At the expo, he discussed having creative freedom, but also claimed that he did not like choosing opponents.

I don’t like to choose opponents because a lot of times that doesn’t work out. What I like to do is get a plan and say, ‘Hey, well, can I—as the artist—can I be creative with the plan?’ And I’ve earned enough trust that they’ll let me do some stupid stuff, and I appreciate it.

The Rock was expected to be a major guiding force during John Cena’s final run in WWE, judging by the role he played in Cena’s heel turn.

However, his disappearance since the Elimination Chamber in March has not sat well with fans.
