John Cena Not Ric Flair’s First Choice To Break WWE Record
John Cena is on a quest to break the tie with Ric Flair and become a 17-time world champion but Cena is not the WWE Hall of Famer’s first pick to do that.
John Cena is embarking on a farewell tour in 2025 as the time is nearly up on his incredible WWE career. Over the space of two decades, Cena equalled Ric Flair’s recognised record as a sixteen-time world champion but he wants to get one more.
After losing out at the Royal Rumble, John Cena declared his entry into the Elimination Chamber for a chance to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. But Cena is not Flair’s first pick to break that record.
John Cena Not First On Ric Flair’s List
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Ric Flair named three people he’d like to see become the first to get to 17 world titles and it’s someone a little closer to home that The Nature Boy names as his first pick:
To me, I’d like it to be one of three people, Randy, Charlotte, or John. My first pick would be Charlotte. I have so much time for John Cena. He is truly one of the greats in our business. Polite, nice, at least to me. I’d have to be missing something to say that he’s not special. But to me he’s very special.
Currently, Charlotte Flair is a 14-times world champion but The Queen will get the chance to go one away from her father’s record when she challenges Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Title at WrestleMania 41.
Randy Orton is also a 14-time world champion in WWE but he seems to be further away from a title reign after he was taken out of action by Kevin Owens.
