John Cena Names All of His WWE Soulmates
John Cena’s legendary run is entering its final stretch, and the milestones are arriving fast as retirement approaches at the end of 2025.
The 17-time world champion has packed his farewell tour with marquee clashes, revisiting iconic rivalries while setting up fresh showdowns that keep the spotlight squarely on him through the fall. In the middle of this sprint, Cena paused at Boston Fan Expo and offered a rare look at who shaped his career most inside the ring, listing the peers he calls his “wrestling soulmates.”
Speaking at Expo, Cena said, “I have a few wrestling soulmates. Those are Randy Orton, Edge, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles. But gosh, I can’t take any shine away from Cody Rhodes–add him, too.” [H/T Boston Herald]
John Cena’s Recent Rivalries Revisited and What’s Next
John Cena defended the Undisputed WWE title against Randy Orton in the main event of Backlash on May 10, 2025, at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, billed as one last chapter in their two-decade rivalry. The fans then saw Cena’s first singles meeting with CM Punk since 2013, which headlined Night of Champions on June 28, 2025, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, with Cena defending the Undisputed WWE Championship as part of his retirement tour.
John Cena also had a rivalry storyline with Cody Rhodes, which escalated across 2025, from Cena’s turn on Rhodes at Elimination Chamber to their WrestleMania clash and a high‑stakes Street Fight rematch at SummerSlam for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
That said, Cena’s upcoming clash will be against Logan Paul. WWE has confirmed John Cena vs. Logan Paul for Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025, at Paris La Défense Arena; the match was made official on the August 8 SmackDown episode.
There is also supposed to be a Brock Lesnar angle soon. The Beast Incarnate shockingly returned at SummerSlam 2025 at MetLife Stadium and F-5’d Cena to close Night 2, signalling a renewed rivalry for Cena’s final run.
