John Cena Could Land One Last Major WWE Title Before Retirement
There could be one more twist in John Cena’s legendary career.
On December 13, John Cena will wrestle for the final time when he competes at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Although no official announcement has been made, it’s been reported that Cena’s last opponent in Washington, D.C., will be former World Champion Gunther.
However, before he gets there, Cena will make two more appearances on Raw before wrestling at Survivor Series. The latest reports on the situation suggest that Cena will face Dominik Mysterio at the event with the Intercontinental Title on the line. Crucially, this is a title Cena has never won.
John Cena To Land One Last Time Win
Following reports that Cena will face Mysterio at Survivor Series, Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the veteran will beat the Intercontinental Champion.
“The idea of Cena winning the IC title from Dominik (the match right now is at Survivor Series) and it being in play for the final match with Gunther has been discussed.”
As many expect Cena to lose his final match, as is pro wrestling tradition, this would see Gunther win the Intercontinental Championship for a second time. Gunther famously set a record for the longest Intercontinental Title reign in history, holding the gold for 666 days between June 2022 and April 2024.
The Austrian star has been absent since losing the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Following the event, it was reported that Gunther would be undergoing surgery on a nose issue.
Meanwhile, Booker T has announced that he’s moved Reality of Wrestling’s traditional winter event, Sub Zero, to avoid a clash with Cena’s final match.
