John Cena Lays Down Challenge To TNA’s Joe Hendry
John Cena is on the quest for a 17th WWE Title but he’s a wanted man and has made clear what needs to happen to get in the ring with the TNA World Champion.
John Cena finished as the runner-up in the 2025 Royal Rumble as Jey Uso claimed the surprise victory and booked himself a title match at WrestleMania 41. 2025 is the final year of Cena’s in-ring career as he chases a record-breaking 17th world title.
After his failure at the Rumble, John Cena declared his entry into the Elimination Chamber. But whatever Cena does this year, there’s one champion keeping a close eye on him – TNA World Champion Joe Hendry.
Joe Hendry made a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble match but lasted just over three minutes before he was dispatched by Roman Reigns. But before he hangs up his boots, Hendry wants to share the ring with John Cena.
John Cena Is A Wanted Man
Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Joe Hendry shared some of what he had the chance to speak to John Cena about at the Royal Rumble and Cena made clear that if a match between the two men is going to happen, the ball is in Hendry’s court:
As soon as I won this championship, the next day, I’m calling out John Cena. The same way I believed I would be in the Royal Rumble, I believe that I will wrestle John Cena this year. There is no doubt. I had the opportunity to tell John Cena that. We had a one-on-one conversation.
It was awesome. He is the greatest. Basically, what he did say is the fortune favors the bold. What he made clear is that, if I want that match to happen, it’s on my shoulders. I have to make it happen and I have to generate the interest to make it happen. It was almost like a challenge.
Aside from that, he gave me some great advice. With all the chaos of the Rumble going on, John Cena sat down with me and had a long meaningful conversation where he could have used that time to think about what he was doing. Instead, he invested the time to talk to me.
I think he may see something in me, but I have to prove myself. I have to put myself in a position where me vs. John Cena is one of the most compelling matchups in professional wrestling.
