Why John Cena Was Furious With WWE Stars During Live Event Match

John Cena angry

A former WWE superstar has told a story about John Cena getting mad at other wrestlers after what they did during a match.

John Cena may be going into WrestleMania 41 as the heel challenger to the WWE Title held by Cody Rhodes, but he spent most of his career as a babyface.

During one of his recent promos on television, Cena talked about being dominant as a WWE superstar who won a lot of matches, and it led to the fans hating him because he won so many matches.

In 2010, John Cena was in the middle of the Nexus storyline that featured Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and other “rookies” who tried to take over WWE with random attacks on anybody and at any time.

While speaking to Kenny McIntosh for Issue 55 of Inside The Ropes Magazine, former WWE star Heath Slater recalled a time when John Cena was very angry with other babyface wrestlers about doing a comedic spot when Cena was working with the Nexus guys at a live event.

“Funny story on that. One time, there was a live event. John Cena was working somebody. It was a cage match. We all ran down, jumped the cage, got in, let the guys in and we beat the s—t out of Cena. Next thing you know, Santino, Morrison, Kofi, all the babyfaces run out, but they have foam pool noodles.

They’re running down and they’re just in the ring hitting us with them and we’re selling it. But then we see it and we start fighting back, what the hell?”

How Did John Cena React To Foam Pool Noodle Usage?

The story continued with Slater remarking how Cena wasn’t happy about the actions of the other WWE babyfaces.

“We get in the back and Cena is so mad, he picks up this red stool and overhand throws it on the ground and shatters it. And he’s like, “Guys, what the f—k? You guys are coming in here while we’re trying to build this group up, make them killers and everything, and you’re fighting with pool noodles?”

He went off on them trying to protect us, to where I just was like Cena is invested a little bit, so that’s kind of cool.

But yeah, that was just one time where it was like, we were supposed to be killers. Don’t treat us like we’re not killers. That pack of hyenas. But they came down with pool noodles just swinging on us. We were just like, what the hell are you doing?”

Regarding the current WWE product, John Cena believes “one strong point of the current state of WWE is its unpredictability in its programming.”
