John Cena’s Father Names Who His Son Should Face At WrestleMania

John Cena WWE Shocked

John Cena’s dad has a specific match in mind for his son’s final battle at WrestleMania.

If you are a WWE fan who has followed John Cena’s legendary career over the last 23 years then you know that his father John Cena Sr. is very proud of his son.

The senior Cena has been ringside for many of his son’s biggest matches while also taking part in storylines with some of John’s biggest rivals like Randy Orton and Edge. Cena Sr. has also been part of the wrestling business on the independent scene as well.

John Cena appeared on WWE’s Raw Netflix debut by doing a promo where he lacked confidence at the start, but by the end of it he had the support of the crowd and he believed he could win the Royal Rumble. That means Cena will be in the Royal Rumble match on February 1st and many people believe he might win it to earn a WWE Title or World Heavyweight Title match at WrestleMania 41.

That match at WrestleMania 41 will be the final match that Cena has at WWE’s biggest show of the year since he plans on retiring as a wrestler by the end of this year.

When John Cena Sr. was interviewed by Sportskeeda’s Bill Apter, he pushed for his son to be against the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

“I think you have two young men in there, and John is still young, two different styles. Gunther, if you look at his style, it’s more Greco Roman, he’s right in there, does those smart wrestling snap moves when John is more about get in, do his thing, and make the win. I think it would be very interesting, I think they would compliment each other. I think that would be one heck of a competition.”

“I think John Cena wins that match the same way he wins every match. There’s going to be an attitude adjustment, a you can’t see me, and one two three count. Let me say this, if he is going to fight Gunther, that will not be an easy match. If he doesn’t come out victorious, I would think there’d be nothing to be ashamed of there, but my money is on him.”

John Cena’s Father Doesn’t Think Cody Rhodes Match Is Happening

As for who Cena might face at WrestleMania 41, there is reportedly a plan for Cena to face the WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, but nothing is official yet. Cena Sr. thinks Cody may have other plans at WrestleMania.

“I don’t see that happening. I think that match is reserved for The Rock, I really do. I think you’re going to see The Rock against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. But should John Cena face Cody Rhodes, I think they both of a little bit of the same style. It’s that rough and tough, knock him down, pull him up and never quit, never give up. I think that would be a very heated awesome match to watch. They’re not different, they’re very similar in their ways.”

Cena Sr. went on to talk more about why he wants his son to be against Gunther at WrestleMania.

“Gunther. Nothing against Cody Rhodes, I have nothing but good words for Cody. If you remember when Randy Orton was kicking the stuffing out of me, it was Cody Rhodes that came down and tried to make the save. So I have nothing but good words for Cody Rhodes.

I just think Gunther right now is at the peak of his career. He’s the best of the best. That’s not taking anything away from Cody Rhodes, because certainly down the road, I’d love to see Rhodes against Gunther, winner take both. I’d love to see that happen at some point. But I would think that Gunter vs. Cena would be the match. I think that’s the person you should face, the best of the best.”

The Cody Rhodes-Gunther match did happen at Crown Jewel last November with Cody picking up the win in a match that saw him leave with the Crown Jewel Championship ring.
