John Cena Compares “Fast” Movies To WrestleMania
John Cena is drawing on his experience in WWE when talking about the longevity of the “Fast” movie franchise.
The tenth movie in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise is called “Fast X” and it’s out now all over the world. The first film premiered in 2001 and over the last 22 years, there’s been a crossover with pro wrestling because Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a featured character in the series and so is another former WWE Champion, John Cena.
Cena, who is a 16-time WWE World Champion that is considered to be one of the greatest WWE superstars of all-time, joined the Fast franchise in the ninth movie titled “F9” as Jakob Toretto, the estranged brother of the main character Dominic Toretto, who is played by Vin Diesel.
Early indications are that “Fast X” will be another huge success for the franchise with over $60 million US opening and over $300 million worldwide.
When it comes to the “Fast and the Furious” series, a lot of people make jokes about how many movies there have been. It’s rare to see any movie series reach ten films, but there are plans for more as Vin Diesel indicated recently.
In an interview with Extra, John Cena brushed off concerns about too many “Fast” movies while reflecting on his WWE career to make a comparison.
“Having just performed at the 39th installment of WrestleMania, my philosophy is as long as it’s good, that’s all that matters.”
“‘Fast’ continuously, and you’ve got box office data that backs it up, continuously entertains the world, installation after installation. So, I think anyone who says, ‘Do we really need another one?’ I compare it to a fan who says, ‘Isn’t wrestling fake?’ They just don’t understand what we do and they just don’t understand what this is about.”
At WrestleMania 39 last month, John Cena lost a US Title match against Austin Theory.
As he continued, Cena praised the film:
“This one might be my favorite of all time and I kind of go deep into the ‘Fast’ library.”
“It’s the kind [of movie] that makes people leave the theater and want to see another one.”
John Cena also said recently that he wishes he was still able to wrestle in WWE more often, but his body just can’t take it anymore. Cena is 46 years old and competed in WWE on a full-time basis for nearly 20 years. He had incredible longevity as a main eventer in the pro wrestling business.
