Why John Cena Can’t Face Major WWE Champion in His Retirement Match

John Cena

A veteran doesn’t want another John Cena vs Cody Rhodes match.

The rivalry between John Cena and Cody Rhodes started at Elimination Chamber 2025, when Cena made a shocking heel turn by attacking Rhodes, who rejected The Rock’s alliance. Their feud quickly escalated, culminating at WrestleMania 41, where Cena, assisted controversially by Travis Scott, defeated Rhodes and captured his record 17th World Title.

The American Nightmare sought redemption and won the King of the Ring tournament, earning a rematch with Cena. The tension boiled over in heated promos and tag matches. Cody Rhodes overcame babyface John Cena and reclaimed the Undisputed WWE Championship, finally closing the chapter on their bitter rivalry at SummerSlam.

On The Four Horsemen Network, NWA legend Magnum TA was asked who he would like to see face John Cena in his retirement match. He was also asked to share if he’d like to see The Undisputed WWE Champion as Cena’s last opponent. Magnum believes that the two stars have permanently concluded their rivalry at SummerSlam. Moreover, he prefers them to be friends over rivals.

It would look too pat because nobody would think they’re going to take the title off the guy having his retirement match, and they’ve already turned the corner, and to, it wouldn’t make any sense. I think Cody and him as allies, you know, and I mean, there are so many things that they can do together with whomever, whatever. I mean, they just need to get some heels really stinking hot because they got some baby faces that are they’re hot. [From 22:23 to 23:03]

John Cena Thinks Logan Paul Is Underrated

Following the conclusion of John Cena’s feud with Cody Rhodes, the focus has shifted squarely to Logan Paul. The Never Seen 17 will face The Maverick at Clash in Paris on August 30. Before their clash, Cena shared candid thoughts about his upcoming opponent.

During a recent appearance at Fan Expo Chicago, he admitted that even though Logan Paul may not be popular among fans, he cannot be underestimated and poses a legitimate threat in the ring. Cena emphasized that, whether liked or disliked, his priority is earning respect, and he believes Paul is capable of beating him because of Paul’s impressive skill in WWE.

When a fan suggested Paul was overrated, John Cena disagreed, remarking that Paul is actually underrated, often receiving an unfair reputation and not being the outsider many perceive him as. According to Cena, Paul truly belongs in WWE and appears destined for future championships.

“I disagree, I think he’s underrated. I think he gets a bad rap. He’s not an outsider, he belongs in WWE. I think his best days are still ahead of him, he’s got championships in his future. I can tell you I’m not looking past Logan Paul, and I’m not believing any of the hype that he’s an outsider who should be taken lightly. I’m training hard.
