John Cena Will Allegedly Lose To Ex-World Champion Before WWE Retirement

John Cena

John Cena wrestled AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel on Saturday, October 11, and walked out of the arena as the victor.

The Last Real Champion has only four dates left on his retirement tour now. He is scheduled for two upcoming Raw episodes in November, and then he’ll have two PLE appearances at Survivor Series and Saturday Night’s Main Event. He’s already wrestled big names in the company as a part of his farewell tour, and fans wonder who might be next.

There is a rumor that ex-World Heavyweight Champion Gunther might be next in line to face John Cena. In fact, some even believe that The Ring General might even be Cena’s last opponent. If that’s the case, wrestling veteran Jim Cornette believes it would be a wise decision on WWE’s part to book Gunther as the winner.

Speaking on his Drive Thru, Cornette explained the reason behind this, saying that John Cena put over Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza and should do the same for Gunther as well.

I think he’s not going to beat Gunther, is he? Why would you if he did a job for Brock Lesnar, who’s probably going to have five more matches in his life at his rate then why would you not put Gunther over when he’s going to be there for the next 10 years? (From 2:25)

Why Gunther Should Be John Cena’s Final Opponent?

WWE Legend JBL recently shared his thoughts on John Cena’s farewell match on the Something to Wrestle podcast. He stated he believes Gunther is the best pick to be Cena’s final opponent in WWE. Here’s why:

Yes. You need somebody that can carry what he’s going to be given being that last match. Whether he goes over or not, that is a huge honor to be Cena’s last opponent. And you’re going to have a lot of stuff that is transferred to you, a lot of equity from Cena transferred into that opponent, especially depending on the finish into Gunther.

If Gunther is the guy. Gunther can carry it. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. That guy is a freaking worker. He’s a great worker. He has a great presence about him. He’s a terrific heel. I think Gunther will be able to do a lot with it.
