John Cena Disappointed To Get Squashed By WWE Legend
John Cena might be a WWE icon, but he was left extremely disappointed when the decision was made to have him squashed by a legend.
At WrestleMania 34, John Cena made clear that there was only one match he wanted as he sought out a bout with The Undertaker on the grandest stage of them all.
Cena started the show amongst the fans watching the action from the crowd before he got notice that “he” had arrived. However, when Cena got to the ring for his match, he was initially confronted by Elias. However, once that ruse was dealt with, The Undertaker arrived to take on Cena.
Those expecting a long, drawn-out classic between two icons of the industry might have been disappointed as The Phenom put Cena away in under three minutes. But apparently, no one was more disappointed than Cena himself.
John Cena Disappointed By Vince McMahon’s Vision
Speaking to Inside The Ropes, former WWE star Elias, now better known as Elijah, explained how John Cena was left disappointed when Vince McMahon decided his match against The Undertaker would be over in a matter of moments:
I know that Undertaker trained for a long match, and John wanted to have this. John Cena and The Undertaker, you want to see them have like a classic WrestleMania match if they’re going to do it right. But Vince had some sort of vision there for that whole segment, and he’s calling the shots.
I was there when John had found out. When he found out, he was very disappointed. He’s such a soldier for the company that he just goes to work, does what he has to do. He’ll make anything great.
The match with The Undertaker set Cena off for a losing streak at WrestleMania that saw him also fall to defeat against The Fiend Bray Wyatt in a cinematic Firefly Funhouse match at WrestleMania 36, as well as perhaps even more bizarrely lose to Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39.
John Cena got back to winning ways at WrestleMania 41 when he defeated Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship in the final WrestleMania match of Cena’s career. That gives Cena a career WrestleMania record of 11-6.
