John Cena Confronted By Multiple Rivals On WWE SmackDown
John Cena had a busy night on WWE SmackDown, with two lengthy promo segments that led to multiple confrontations.
The Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena started off SmackDown in Lexington with a promo about his greatness. Cena discussed his retirement announcement one year ago, competing in the Royal Rumble, winning the Elimination Chamber, becoming WWE Champion for a record 17th time, and everything else he accomplished this year. Cena claimed the Pro Wrestling Mount Rushmore is John Cena four times.
It was a classic, cocky heel champion promo, where Cena told the fans watching that he was more intelligent than them. In Cena’s opinion, he was a genius.
Cody Rhodes was the first man to interrupt. Cody spoke about how, when John Cena discussed his 25-year master plan, he didn’t mention that Cena was looking up at the lights, and Cody pinned Cena in the center of the ring at Money in the Bank. Cody said that Cena is part of Cody’s plan. It also left Cody wondering where does that leave them?
Randy Orton was next to interrupt as he got in Cena’s face and claimed that he was so close to punting Cena at Backlash and beating him for the WWE Title. However, somebody decided to come and save the day (R-Truth). Orton told Cody he loves him like a brother, but if he has to put Cody’s ass down, then he won’t hesitate to do it. Orton and Cody could meet in the King of the Ring Finals for a shot at the WWE Title because they both won matches on SmackDown to move on to the Semifinals.
LA Knight also got in John Cena’s face, talking about how he was a threat to the WWE Champion as well. Knight referred to Cena as a “genius balding bitch,” which drew a laugh from the crowd.
Rather than fight any of his adversaries in the ring, John Cena left the ring, and he was attacked from behind by Ron Killings (R-Truth) with a forearm to the back. Ron punched Cena several times before officials and security showed up to break it up. The fans were cheering a lot.
CM Punk Also Addressed John Cena On SmackDown
Two hours later, at the top of hour three on WWE SmackDown, John Cena was in the ring for another promo. Cena was greeted with “John Cena sucks” singing from the crowd. Cena told the fans to shut up and called out R-Truth to come to the ring.
CM Punk showed up instead because Punk is Cena’s opponent at WWE Night of Champions in two weeks on June 28th. Punk told Cena to stop what he was doing and let them celebrate him for what he did for the business and give them a happy ending.
In response, Cena asked Punk why he would waste his time. Cena said that these people don’t matter, this place doesn’t matter, basketball doesn’t matter, horse racing doesn’t matter, and he said that this WWE Title is the only thing that matters.
Punk said Cena is a GOAT, but so is Punk. Punk said that he’s beaten Cena in his hometown and Punk’s hometown. Punk said that Cena is the goat that Punk will spit roast and sacrifice to the Gods of wrestling. Punk mentioned legends on a Mount Rushmore like Terry Funk, Harley Race, Bret Hart, and Eddie Guerrero. Punk called Cena a joke. Punk said he sees through him and he always has, and that’s the truth. Punk bumped into Cena and left the ring at that point.
For the second time in the night, Ron Killings, aka R-Truth, attacked Cena again with a forearm to the back. Ron applied the STF on Cena in the ring while Punk walked away. There were security guys and WWE Officials in the ring to pull Ron off Cena.
In a backstage segment, Ron Killings told SmackDown GM Nick Aldis that he wanted to face Cena in a match next week on SmackDown, and Aldis said fine, so the match will take place on the June 20th edition of SmackDown as Cena will compete in a rare SmackDown match.
