John Cena Makes Surprising Choice For Greatest-Ever Rival
John Cena has endured some huge battles during his career.
In December, John Cena will finally bring the curtain down on a career that has surpassed all expectations. For the best part of 25 years, Cena has broken WWE records and made history at every turn, but as he’s admitted, it’s now time to walk away.
Over the course of his career, Cena has tangled with some of the greatest stars to ever step into a WWE ring. This includes legendary battles with the likes of Randy Orton, The Undertaker, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, and many more.
However, for the 17-time World Champion, one rival stands above all others.
When asked to name his biggest foe during an interview with WIRED, Cena had a surprising answer.
“Who is John Cena’s biggest rival? That one’s simple. The audience.”
Cena added that fans have been “tireless” for 25 years while resisting every attempt by him to break them.
“My goodness, we’ve been going back and forth for almost 25 years now. You’re tireless. You have the energy of an everlasting battery. I’ve tried to break you. I can’t. You got me on the ropes. This is my last nerve. I’ve said I’m gonna retire, and I will go down swinging, trying to crack your resolve, but damn it, you guys are tough. You are my biggest rival.”
WWE Making Big Plans For John Cena
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that the long-rumoured match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar will take place at Wrestlepalooza on September 20. In the press release for the event, it had already confirmed that Cena would be in the headline bout.
As many suspected, that means the match and event will go head-to-head with AEW All Out.
In addition, Cody Rhodes is due to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre. Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk will also be in action.
Elsewhere, it’s been confirmed that John Cena’s last match will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. There had been speculation that WWE was considering moving the match to later in the month as a way of counter-programming AEW Worlds End.
