John Cena Reveals Why He Carries Around A Pocket Watch

John Cena WWE Raw

John Cena has a special reason why he carries around a pocket watch and it has nothing to do with telling time.

There was a time when a pocket watch was a fashionable thing that was also useful for human beings, but in this era with cell phones in our pockets and watches that do a lot more than tell time, the classic pocket watch doesn’t seem that necessary.

As WWE fans know, John Cena is a unique guy who likes to do different things like wear jorts in the wrestling ring while others prefer trunks or tights.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live with legendary actor Jeff Goldblum as the host, Cena shared that he always carries a broken pocket watch with him to offer perspective on life.

“I used to think I was not enough. I did not value self. So on the back of this watch it says ‘comparison is the thief of joy,’ so I take this and every time I feel uncomfortable or have low self-worth, I just give it a little reminder and it reminds me that I am enough and I am worthy of love.”

The discussion continued with Cena sharing what it says on the pocket watch.

“It says ‘Memento mori’ for when my head gets too big I need to remember that I am human and I’m above no one and always remember where I came from and remember those who support me, that I don’t do it alone so I have one side when I don’t think my ego is too big and one side for when I don’t feel enough and it’s a nice little keeper of perspective not time and that’s why I have it.”

Cody Rhodes Reacts To Possibly Facing John Cena In WWE Match

There are still over four months to go in 2024, but the year 2025 is going to be an exciting one for WWE fans because it will be Cena’s final year as an in-ring performer in WWE. In fact, John Cena claims he’ll appear on about 36 WWE shows around the world in 2025 so if you’re in one of those cities, you can see Cena perform for the last time.

The current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has spoken many times about Cena being a mentor of his. When asked if he wanted to face Cena in 2025 during Cena’s retirement tour, Cody made it clear that he would love that to happen.

“We get to live in this era, he’s definitely a man of his word. When he says it’s farewell, it truly is farewell. If you have the farewell tour t-shirt, go and get it, this is it. I drove John around for a year and I learned everything I possibly could. Didn’t realize I was learning so much at the time.”

“It would be the honor of my life to wrestle John Cena in any capacity. He’s the GOAT for a reason.”

Fans will have to wait until 2025 to see if that John Cena-Cody Rhodes match does happen.
