WWE Champion John Cena Was Top AEW Star’s First Favorite Pro Wrestler
A major name in AEW has admitted that John Cena was his “first love” in pro wrestling.
The 25-year run of John Cena as a pro wrestler is set to end in December of this year. As a 17-time WWE World Champion, many wrestling fans consider Cena the “Greatest of All Time” due to his longevity as a top star and the way he has inspired millions.
There are many people in today’s pro wrestling world who grew up watching the 48-year-old Cena, who has stated that a significant reason for his retirement is that he can no longer physically perform as he once did.
One of those prominent wrestlers who grew up watching Cena is the longest-reigning and youngest AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, aka MJF, who is 29 years old. MJF and Cena met at the premiere of the “Iron Claw” movie, in which MJF was a part, but they never wrestled, as MJF is an AEW wrestler and Cena is in WWE.

MJF Calls John Cena His “First Love” In Pro Wrestling
In the new Happy Gilmore 2 movie on Netflix, MJF plays one of Happy’s sons in the film. In an interview promoting Happy Gilmore 2, MJF spoke to Unlikely’s Adrian Hernandez about his admiration for John Cena and how Cena was one of MJF’s favorite wrestlers.
“What we talked about will stay between us, but I will say that he is another guy that is as advertised. He’s a hard-working, intelligent, good human being. A great human being.
Every time I’ve talked to him, I’ve come away from it feeling like I learned something in the sense that, ‘this is what I should aspire to be like inside the ring and outside of the ring.’ This dude was a FatHead on my wall growing up. Cena was my first love, and then it was Punk. It’s really cool getting to talk to him.”
John Cena will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. WWE confirmed that the Cena-Rhodes match will take place on Sunday, August 3rd, in what will likely be the main event of the second night of the first-ever two-night edition of SummerSlam.
