John Cena Allegedly Adopted Ex-WWE Star As His “Personal Whipping Child”
A veteran WWE superstar thinks that another wrestler became John Cena’s “personal whipping child” for some reason.
The name of John Cena was thrown around a lot this year since he was on his WWE retirement tour. That tour ended at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th, when John Cena tapped out to Gunther in what was Cena’s final match.
While many people have praised Cena for his legacy in pro wrestling over the last 25 years, others have criticized the man who was WWE’s undisputed top guy for over a decade.
Among the critics was former WWE Tag Team Champion David Otunga, who actually briefly held the Tag Team Titles as a reluctant partner of Cena’s. Otunga first worked with Cena as part of The Nexus group in June 2010, and that group would go on to work more with Cena throughout that year.
In a video on his YouTube channel, David Otunga spoke about an incident that led to John Cena getting really mad at him during a match.
“I grab the top rope. The moment I grab the top rope, Cena does this awful looking sell. I didn’t push it back and pull it yet. I just touched the rope and he sold it. So, do you understand what I’m saying? I didn’t even do the move yet. I’m supposed to grab it, push it out, then pull it back. So, it looks like I’m yanking him off it. The moment I touched the rope, Cena sold it. He sold it way too early and it was wrong and it looked terrible, right? Well, I didn’t say anything about it. I turned around. Boy, Cena is pi**ed.”
As he continued, Otunga claimed that Cena beat him up during the match and verbally berated Otunga backstage too.
“He’s kicking my a** in there for real and cussing me out, telling me how terrible I am. I’m awful. I live in fantasy land. This is over. I’m going back to FCW. Like, this is it for me. In the middle of the match. And I don’t even know what to do with myself at this point because I didn’t mess that up. But yet this is John Cena and he’s cussing me out. Like, he’s getting disrespectful. Like, he’s stepping over the line here pretty much and we’re in the middle of a match.
So, I have to go on with this. And I remember being so embarrassed because people can hear this now. I know we’re in France, but still. Like, Evan Bourne is in there and he’s like snickering at me across the ring. And Wade’s in there and he’s not really saying anything. And it’s like, it’s awful.
And then, we go to the back. I don’t even get to say sorry. Cena is cussing me out as soon as he comes through the curtain in front of the entire locker room and totally dressing me down and just telling me, like, this is a fantasy for me. I’m not a real wrestler. I shouldn’t be here. I can’t hack it. I gotta go back to FCW. The first thing he’s doing is getting on the phone and telling Vince. He’s calling the office.
And it’s so bad that this was the worst where it’s like, you know, I can’t do anything. I’m so frustrated. Like, I started getting like tears of anger welling up in my eyes because what do you do? And, you know, like, I’m not gonna, if he would have stepped over the line. I mean, that’s one thing he didn’t. So, it’s not like I’m gonna put my hands on him, but it’s like you don’t talk to another man like this and he’s being totally disrespectful. And like, the whole point of this is he messed it up.”
John Cena May Have Not Liked David Otunga For Some Reason
When he was asked about Otunga’s complaints about Cena, former WWE manager and wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell summed it up by saying that Cena must have thought about Otunga in a certain way.
“I think David Otunga must have set off something in him that he didn’t like. I guess he (Cena) adopted him as his personal whipping child, and I guess it worked.”
Mantell also claimed on his podcast that Otunga, who is a lawyer, should consider suing Cena if Cena was that much of a bully.
“First thing I’d do if I was David Otunga, I would sue John Cena. I would go and sue the hell out of him and let him spend some money on a lawyer. Cost him some money anyway. But I don’t know. He may have just maybe not liked David for some reason, and I can’t figure out that reason. It could be anything.”
