John Cena Admits Sun Is Setting On WWE Career
John Cena is closing in on retirement.
For the last two decades, John Cena has been one of WWE’s biggest stars, but the sure-fire Hall of Famer is keenly aware he’ll be unable to out-run Father Time forever.
Cena hasn’t wrestled since the Raw after WrestleMania 40 when he teamed with the Awesome Truth to see off Judgment Day. 24 hours earlier he attempted to help Cody Rhodes win World Championship gold but was flattened by The Rock. The star’s last singles match came at Crown Jewel where he was utterly destroyed by Solo Sikoa.
Although Cena has been at pains to remind people he hasn’t retired, he knows the end is near.
In a new interview with PEOPLE magazine, Cena discussed his dedication to fitness, and reiterated that the end of his WWE career is near.
“I know my WWE journey is coming to an end, but fitness was a part of my life long before the WWE journey started. Fitness will be a part of my life, hopefully as long as my heart’s beating. So the WWE has been a great chapter in my life — it’s year 23 for me — and the sun’s setting on that chapter in the book, but fitness will never not be a part of my life.”
John Cena Reveals Retirement Plans
Shortly after WrestleMania 40, John Cena admitted he’s moved his retirement plans forward. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the veteran said he’s not planning on wrestling past his 50th birthday, but noted he’ll likely retire before then.
The 16-time World Champion is 47 years old.
