Joe Hendry Makes Surprising TNA Admission

TNA World Champion Joe Hendry

Joe Hendry is content to take a backseat.

At NXT Battleground, Joe Hendry lost the TNA World Championship to Trick Williams. This marked the first time that a wrestler has held the TNA Championship under contract with WWE.

During the June 5 edition of Impact, Hendry addressed his loss for the first time. The Scottish star admitted that he “dropped the ball” at Battleground, before conceding that he’s willing to step back as Elijah steps up to challenge Williams.

“I lost the TNA World Championship to Trick Williams and it’s hard for me because this last year has just been a whirlwind… I just felt we were taking TNA to new heights… and now the World Championship is in the hands of someone that does not work here.

I want nothing more but to get another shot at Trick Williams… but I understand that’s not my spot right now. Elijah is next and he deserves it and I support him against all odds.”

Hendry went on to reveal the impact that TNA has made on his life, commenting that he discovered the company in 2002.

“I started watching TNA in 2002, back when I was in high school. I did not feel that I was going to amount to much… Pro wrestling inspired me to be better and that’s carried on through my adult life.”

Bully Ray Doesn’t Believe In Joe Hendry

On the June 3 edition of NXT, Mike Santana challenged Trick Williams and looked to bring the World Championship back to TNA, however, he was unsuccessful.

Off the back of the taping, Bully Ray was adamant that it should be Santana who ultimately topples Williams. The WWE Hall of Famer said that while he’s a fan of Hendry, Santana is the star TNA needs moving forward.

Bully Ray suggested that the rivalry between Williams and Santana should run until Slammiversary, when the challenger finally wins the championship.

At Against All Odds on June 6, Elijah will challenge Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship. Williams is flying high after that successful defence against Mike Santana on NXT, thanks to AJ Francis and KC Navarro.

Meanwhile, Joe Hendry will square off against long-time rival Frankie Kazarian.
