Jim Ross Shares Health Update As He Prepares For AEW Return

Jim Ross

Jim Ross will be back on television soon.

2025 has been a wild ride for Jim Ross as he’d battled several health problems while remaining determined to continue his career as an announcer.

In May, Ross revealed that he’d been diagnosed with colon cancer. After undergoing surgery, he was back on the commentary desk for All In Texas just two months later. However, he’s largely remained out of the spotlight as he continues his recovery.

In August, Jim Ross confirmed that he had signed a new AEW contract to keep him with the company until August 2026. In recent years, Ross has scaled back his AEW schedule and now only works the promotion’s biggest pay-per-view events.

Jim Ross Targeting AEW Comeback

On the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, Ross opened the show by giving a positive health update. The episode was Ross’s first appearance on the podcast in several weeks.

“I’m better today than I’ve been in a long time. I feel Good. I’m glad to be back on the air with you guys.”

Ross went on to reveal that he’s now sold his residence in Jacksonville, Florida, and is now back living in Norman, Oklahoma, full-time. He added that he recently had an appointment with a cardiologist who was happy with how things are going.

I actually have news, a piece of news, new news. I finally sold my condo in Jacksonville, so we’ll be closing on that in a few days. I’m in Norman, Oklahoma, so my place in Jacksonville is sold… which is a great relief…

My kids have been taking great care of me. I got it made, and I’m very happy.

I had a cardiologist appointment yesterday, and I’m pleased with what he saw. So far, I haven’t had any issues with my heart. I’m alive. You know, a few months ago, at this time, I wasn’t so sure about the outcome, but here I am, and here we are.”

When asked whether he’d be returning to AEW at some point in the future, Ross expressed his excitement at getting back in the saddle.

“Yeah, absolutely, that’s the plan in the next few weeks. So yeah, I’m excited about that opportunity.”

Given that his schedule in recent years has been based around AEW pay-per-views, many have taken this comment to mean that Ross will be back at the commentary desk for Full Gear on November 22.

The company will then round out 2025 with Worlds End on December 27.
