Jim Ross Reveals His Favourite Hell In A Cell Match
Legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross recently shared his thoughts on his favourite Hell in a Cell match, following the infamous Undertaker vs. Mankind bout from King of the Ring 1998.
On his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross didn’t hesitate to name his top pick.
“Undertaker and Shawn.”
Referring to the first ever Hell in a Cell match from October 1997 between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, explained his choice.
Because I hadn’t seen anything like it before and that’s a lasting impression on me with great memories, and it was the first of its kind.
Jim Ross’s selection comes as no surprise to wrestling fans, given the iconic status of both performers, and highlighted the significance of the match’s setting.
Two of the most amazing performers ever in pro wrestling and they got that cell to play in.
JR, who was on commentary for the match, was particularly impressed by Shawn Michaels’ performance that night.
Shawn was just extraordinary that night. I told him after the show that maybe he’s known as a finesse guy, moonsaults, super kicks, all these things he was kind of known for. I think people are gonna look at you now and say he’s a lot tougher than I thought he was.
JR emphasised the physical toll the match took on both performers, especially Michaels and concluded his thoughts by reiterating his admiration for the match.
Because of the brutality that both those men endured during that first Hell in a Cell match. Shawn more than made up for his perceived lack of size in that match because he gutted it out, he brought it, and it was an extraordinary performance from both guys. I love that match.
JR’s comments serve as a testament to the enduring impact of this historic Hell in a Cell encounter, which continues to be celebrated today, 27 years after the very first one.
Jim Ross Thinks AEW Should Make This Change
Jim Ross believes that AEW should limit their pay-per-views to three hours, Ross said that the four and five-hour PPVs are “daunting” and that he think having a three hour pay-per-view will be more accessible to most audiences.
