Jim Ross Endorses “Preparation Freak” Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson has the support of Jim Ross.

On September 10, Bryan Danielson made his debut at the AEW Dynamite commentary desk, all but confirming that his in-ring career is over. At least for the time being.

The veteran initially joined the commentary team at Forbidden Door, stepping in for Taz, who didn’t make the trip to London, England. After impressing in the role, Tony Khan moved to make the American Dragon part of the team on Dynamite on a permanent basis.

Following the show, it was reported that Bryan Danielson had decided against having neck surgery so that he could launch his new career as a commentator. Despite this, his neck reportedly remains in bad shape.

Jim Ross Backs Bryan Danielson Decision

On the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, legendary commentator Jim Ross gave his thoughts on Danielson’s move to the booth. On the episode recorded before Dynamite, Ross said he was looking forward to seeing Danielson in the new role, tipping him to be a huge success.

“I’m looking forward to it. He’s a studious student of the game, has a lot of knowledge. He’s more than happy to share, which I think is great. I like the addition of him. It gets some knowledge out of a talent that has been kind of sequestered into, I don’t want to say oblivion. Bryan is a really smart guy and I heard some of his work, I think he does a good job. Change is good for us.

Bryan is going to do a great job because he’s a preparation freak. He’s got great product knowledge. So when you add preparation and product knowledge together, you got a good chance of coming up with a fresh new sound. He’ll do great.”

Meanwhile, Jim Ross recently confirmed that he’s signed a new AEW contract to keep him with the company until August 2026. In recent years, Ross has scaled back his AEW schedule and now only works the promotion’s biggest pay-per-view events.

After signing the contract, Ross denied that he held talks with WWE, adding that he has no desire to return to the sports entertainment giant.
