Jim Ross Expresses Anger Over Montreal Screwjob Being Over “A Prop”

Shawn Michaels Bret Hart Montreal Screwjob

AEW announcer Jim Ross has expressed his apparent annoyance at the fact the infamous Montreal Screwjob involving Bret Hart took place over “a prop.”

The Montreal Screwjob took place at Survivor Series 1997 when the bell was rung to end the WWE Championship match between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, with Michaels being declared the winner despite Hart not submitting while locked in his own Sharpshooter hold.

Hart was on his way out the door to WCW but was reluctant to drop his title to Michaels after The Heartbreak Kid disrespected Hart by claiming he wouldn’t be willing to lose to The Hitman.

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross lamented the fact that such an infamous incident occurred all because of a “prop”:

“I was whisked away by security, [Jerry] Lawler and I were, I don’t know where Lawler went but they peeled me off of our exit and put me in Vince’s office. Vince said ‘don’t unlock this door for anybody but me’ so now ok, the plot thickens.

“[…] I was confused, I was upset, I didn’t think it’d go to that extreme to get the f*cking title, it’s a prop, it’s a goddamn prop. That’s what they are, it’s stage attire, it’s a prop for a fictional presentation.”
