Jim Ross Confirms AEW Contract Status
Will Jim Ross stay with AEW?
At AEW All In, Jim Ross made a popular return to the commentary desk less than two months after undergoing surgery for colon cancer.
Despite that considerable setback, Ross pushed on and called the action for the final two matches. In typical JR style, he’s repeatedly stated that he has no plans to retire.
On the most recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he’s doing well following his cancer surgery. Importantly, he said he remains cancer-free.
“You know, I feel a lot better, don’t have any lingering issues. And I got good doctors. And all I want to hear is ‘you’re cancer-free,’ and that’s what the verdict has been the last several weeks. And that’s important to me.”
Jim Ross Negotiating New AEW Deal
Ross went on to confirm that while his contract expires in August, he has no desire to leave the company. He added that he’s “hopeful” that a new deal will be reached and that his agent Barry Bloom is negotiating to that end.
JR said that his loyalty to AEW comes from his relationship with Tony Khan, who has looked after him during his health struggles.
“I love where I am, because nobody has ever taken care of me as good as Tony Khan is and has. So that’s why I’m so content about being there. I want to stay there in AEW, and I want to work more. I want to be able to contribute more. So that’s my goal to stay healthy and contribute more to the company that pays me.”
Ross added that he’d love to work AEW’s upcoming residency at the 2300 Arena because of the history attached to the venue.
On the same podcast, Jim Ross confirmed that he’ll be on commentary for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on August 24 in London, England.
