Jim Cornette Explains Why He’s Not A Fan Of Women’s WarGames

Jim Cornette has shared why he isn’t a big fan of having two WarGames matches on the same show and why he thinks a women’s match is “ridiculous.”

The WarGames match concept was created by Dusty Rhodes in the NWA in the mid-1980s and was later used in WCW through the 1990s. WWE started using it on the NXT brand in 2017 and was an NXT-exclusive match until this year.

It was recently by WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H (in an exclusive interview with The Ringer) that WWE was bringing WarGames to Survivor Series this year:

“We’ll have a men’s WarGames match and a women’s WarGames match. The tradition of the Survivor Series has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that.”

Legendary wrestling manager/booker/announcer Jim Cornette addressed the WarGames concept on his Experience podcast. Cornette was ringside at The Great American Bash in 1989, so he knows what it’s like to see a WarGames match up close. Cornette made it clear that he doesn’t like a women’s WarGames match taking place at Survivor Series.

“Now I hear they’re gonna have WarGames. But at the same time, not only are they going to have WarGames and no blood, because Triple H had just said he didn’t like the blood, it’s irresponsible in today’s environment. But on the same show, they’re gonna have a women’s and men’s WarGames, a women’s WarGames is ridiculous.”

“The WarGames was the ultimate display of violence that could be perpetrated between 10 Guys in a double ring with a double cage to settle a f*cking issue between the biggest stars in all of wrestling. And then on a show they’re going to have two of them, and of course, the girls is going to go on first. So a girl’s WarGames with any girls, much less the girls they got, is f*cking phony and silly and stupid and rotten. Because if it was real, they wouldn’t last 15 seconds before they were all ripped limb from limb in a f*cking dangerous cage like that.”

“And all that a women’s WarGames does, in front of a men’s WarGames is take the f*cking bloom off the rose of the men’s WarGames that people might want to see. But if there’s no blood in a f*cking men’s WarGames inside a steel cage and an ultimate blow-off match, then you’ve just sh*t the bed anyway. So I don’t see how they’re ever gonna get this sh*t back on track now that I’ve just gone over all those various f*cking things that are wrong.”

This year’s Survivor Series Premium Live Event will take place on Saturday, November 26th at TD Garden in Boston. It will be available to stream live exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and WWE Network everywhere else.
