Jim Cornette has given his thoughts on the possibility of Cody Rhodes going to WWE, saying “The American Nightmare” is unlikely to become a main event star in the promotion.

Earlier this month, Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi’s decision to leave AEW Shocked the wrestling world. As well as their on-screen roles, Cody Rhodes was an EVP within the company while Brandi was their Chief Brand Officer.

Since then, there have been multiple reports suggesting that Cody could be preparing to make a comeback to WWE. He left that company in 2016 before going on to be a key figure in the creation of All Elite Wrestling.

On the February 21st episode of Raw, WWE heavily hinted that Rhodes was on his way as multiple references were made to the three-time TNT Champion.

Now, speaking on The Jim Cornette Experience, the legendary manager has weighed in on the possibility of Cody Rhodes returning to the company where he began his career. Cornette believes that although Rhodes will be well paid, his recent history with AEW makes it unlikely that he will be a main event star in WWE.

“Do you think they are going to hire a guy who was a champion in AEW, one of the top guys and has a number of victories over some of the others, and then push him to the moon and start beating the major players in the WWE? I don’t think so. I think that Cody will be a very well paid upper mid-card guy.

They want the information, the visual and the optic. But they also want a guy who can work on the card, but he’s not going to be the be all and end all of all their problems. They are not going to have an AEW guy get the victory over Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley anytime soon. So he’s going to take the money, leave his friends in the lurch and get paid as a very well upper mid-card guy for the next few years until his next reality show takes off. That’s what I think.”

It should be noted that, while it has been heavily rumoured, there is no confirmation that Cody Rhodes will sign with WWE.
