Jey Uso Knows When “Yeet” Took Off With WWE Fans

Jey Uso

Jey Uso has explained some of the origins of the “Yeet” phrase and when WWE fans took a liking to it.

As the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble winner, Jey Uso is a man who can thank the support of the WWE fans for his big win. While many people picked other big names like John Cena or CM Punk to win the Royal Rumble, it was Jey who emerged as the winner by last eliminating Cena.

A big reason for Jey’s Rumble win is because he is beloved by the WWE fans, who love doing the arm-swinging motion as part of his entrance and also love the “Yeet” phrase that Jey has been shouting for years.

Regarding the “Yeet” phrase, Jey Uso believes that fans took to it after the WWE Fastlane press conference in October 2023 while Jey and Cody Rhodes were celebrating their Tag Team Title win. During the press conference, Jey and Cody looked like they may have been taking part in some adult activities after their win and then they went to the press conference after that.

The “T” In “Yeet” Wasn’t Originally Part Of The Word According To Jey Uso

Jey Uso appeared on a recent edition of Nightcap with NFL legends Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson to talk about his use of “yeet” and the fans taking a liking to it.

“lf you really pay attention, me, my brothers, Roman [Reigns], we’ve kind of been saying that from the jump. If you look at old promos or whatever, uce, you’ll hear it. ‘Yeet. Yeet.’ It’s also a west coast slang. It’s been a slang…I’m a little older than the little homies, [they’re] like, ‘Oh, that’s a meme, a catchphrase where you’re yeeting people.’ But it’s been a slang.

The ‘t’ wasn’t even on there. It used to be ‘yee’, like y-e-e-e. Man, I didn’t expect it to take off, though, like that. It just took off.

I feel like it took off at the press conference. If you watch the press conference, you know. Then I had Cody saying ‘yeet,’ and then it just took off. I think that was a turning point. But I never thought it would take off the way it do.”

While Jey Uso has teased the idea of going after Gunther’s World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 41, Jey will appear on Smackdown on February 7th to talk to WWE Cody Rhodes as well.
