Jey Uso Is The “Last Of A Dying Breed”
Jey Uso is on top of the world.
Since breaking free from the orbit of The Bloodline in 2023, Jey Uso has risen to become one of the most popular stars in wrestling today.
Despite regular criticism of his in-ring skills, Uso has made the most of every opportunity that’s come his way as fans have taken him to their hearts. After coming up short against Gunther in the King of the Ring tournament, and later at Saturday Main Event with the World Title on the line, Uso only had one opponent in mind when he won the Royal Rumble.
After shocking John Cena at the end of the match, Uso laid down a challenge to Gunther, setting up their match at WrestleMania 41.
In the opening match of night one, Uso hit three huge splashes in the final stages before forcing Gunther to submit in a sleeper hold to claim the World Heavyweight Championship.
Jey Uso Embracing Love And Hate
During the night one post-show press conference, Nims of SEN Radio asked Uso whether it had sunk in that he was the new World Heavyweight Champion. An elated Uso said that it hadn’t, before revealing all he’d ever wanted was to be a tag team star.
He went on to give thanks to everyone who had helped him on his unexpected journey to the top.
“I just wanted to be a tag team wrestler with my twin brother. Once you start to progress and see different doors open, you want to take advantage of those opportunities.
It’s been hard. Especially hard today because I feel like, our business, everyone is smart to it. We the last of a dying breed, that’s what I think. It’s damn near live theatrics, one shot, one take, live TV. I take pride in all that.
All my brothers and sisters. Everyone who put on today. Behind the scenes, we’re all a big family. I’m so grateful I get to do this little part.
I go out there and wrestle, but the production crew, the people who drive the trucks, who load, catering, I love y’all. I love everybody. My hat’s off. Stay humble, ready to rumble.
Welcome to the YEET Era. I don’t know what’s about to happen. I’m gonna embrace the hate. I’m gonna embrace the love. I dethroned the Ring General.
I’m the World Heavyweight Champion. I got side plates on this thing. This is the quickest I ever got…I had to wait two weeks when I won the IC Championship. I got a new shirt on. It’s love. YEET.”
Elsewhere on night one, Tiffany Stratton retained her Women’s Championship with a huge win over Charlotte Flair, while The New Day saw off The War Raiders to claim the World Tag Team Championship.
In the main event, Paul Heyman betrayed both Roman Reigns and CM Punk to help Seth Rollins emerge victorious in a wild Triple Threat Match.
