Je’Von Evans Competes For Championship On WWE SmackDown, Earns TNA Title Shot In Same Night
Je’Von Evans got a title shot on WWE SmackDown and will get a title shot in TNA as well.
Sami Zayn hosted his United States Title Open Challenge on WWE SmackDown in Orlando for the fourth week in a row. Zayn faced John Cena, Rey Fenix, and Carmelo Hayes in previous US Title Open Challenge matches.
This time around, since they were in Orlando, an NXT wrestler accepted the challenge. It was the popular 21-year-old superstar, Je’Von Evans.
In his first singles match on SmackDown, Je’Von Evans challenged Sami Zayn for the US Title. Even though Zayn has been wrestling for more years than Evans has been alive, they had a competitive match that saw Evans come close to winning a few times.
When Evans hit his OG Cutter off the top rope, it got a two count, and the fans were furious about it. The fans chanted, “Ref, you suck,” because they felt that it was a slow count and that Evans should have won the match.
The veteran Zayn was able to bounce back, he hit a Helluva Kick and a Blue Thunder Bomb for the pinfall win. After the match, Zayn raised Evans’ hand and the fans cheered the “Young OG” for an impressive performance.
Je’Von Evans is facing Josh Briggs at NXT No Mercy on September 27th, and Briggs was ringside for the match. Briggs punched Evans in an act that wasn’t shown on television.
In post-match comments on social media, Je’Von Evans spoke about his match with Zayn and what he plans to do to Briggs at No Mercy.
“Bro, what a…what a crazy experience, you know what I mean? It was an honor answering the US challenge. You feel me, my first opportunity at the United States Championship, and the Young OG almost won. But Sami Zayn came off on top, so I appreciate him.
But then Josh Briggs had the nerve to come and interfere in my business. So Briggs at No Mercy, I’m not just gonna win, I’mma beat your ass…and that’s facts!”
Je’Von Evans Getting Title Shot At TNA Bound For Glory
That wasn’t all for the “Young OG” on September 20th because he also appeared via a video message at the TNA Turning Point PLE in Edmonton.
TNA’s Director of Authority announced that at TNA Bound for Glory on October 12th, Je’Von Evans will challenge the TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater for the X-Division Title.
