Jerry Lawler Blames WWE Star For His On-Screen Heart Attack

Jerry Lawler

The September 10th, 2012 edition of Monday Night RAW was one of the most nerve-wracking ever because of Jerry Lawler’s very real heart attack.

After competing in a match earlier, Lawler started snoring at the commentary table. Soon afterwards he collapsed completely and matches took place without any commentary at all. Michael Cole broke kayfabe and kept fans updated on Lawler’s condition. And when Lawler returned to RAW two months later, he was met with a hero’s welcome.

While the attack was diagnosed as ‘unexplained cardiac arrest’, Lawler has since shifted the blame elsewhere…onto someone: Dolph Ziggler.

Right before he started losing consciousness, Jerry Lawler teamed with Randy Orton against Ziggler and CM Punk. Speaking on Raw Talk, Lawler argued that it was trauma to his chest from Ziggler that led to his heart attack.

“A lot of people don’t realize this. I’ve tried to tell it, but a lot of people don’t know ten years ago, Dolph Ziggler is the guy that caused me to have a cardiac arrest. His blunt trauma to my chest during the match that we had, me and Randy Orton against Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk, he gave me 10 elbows to my chest and that trauma caused my heart to stop. He’s a killer and he needs to get some — I was so glad to see [Baron Corbin] do what he did tonight to that idiot Dolph Ziggler. It was so great.”

Jerry Lawler no longer does commentary full-time for WWE, but he still wrestles on a semi-regular basis on the independent scene.
