Jeff Jarrett Reveals Behind The Scenes Drama Of His 2009 TNA Return
On a recent episode of “My World With Jeff Jarrett,” the WWE Hall of Famer shed light on the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his return to TNA Wrestling in 2009.
Jeff Jarrett’s initial departure from TNA, was mired in controversy. He attributes this exit to a strategic move by Dixie Carter, the company’s president.
Dixie knew about the Kurt-Karen relationship. The marriage had long been over way before this when it became — you know, when me and Karen started dating, Dixie manoeuvred herself. She took this opportunity to do her power play.
The wrestling veteran’s return to TNA television in late 2009 came about through unexpected channels. Jarrett recounted a surprising call from Vince Russo which set the wheels in motion for Jarrett’s reintegration into the company. However, the terms of Jeff Jarrett’s return were not immediately clear.
A lawyer eventually called me and said, ‘You’re going to start back in January (2010). Here’s what we want you to focus on: live events and international.’
Interestingly, Jarrett was kept in the dark about significant changes to TNA’s product, including the introduction of the six-sided ring. He was, however, given peculiar instructions about his appearance.
We want you to have a look that you’re kind of — you know, just dishevelled and not really engaged in work at all.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Jarrett’s return was the missed opportunity for a high-profile feud with Kurt Angle. Despite the obvious storyline potential, this direction was apparently vetoed by Dixie Carter.
Dixie despised Karen, that simple.
This personal animosity seemingly influenced major creative decisions within the company. Vince Russo, however, recognised the potential of the situation.
Bro, the money is Jeff, Kurt and Karen.
However, the storyline never fully materialised until over a year later in 2011 due to behind-the-scenes tensions.
