Jeff Jarrett Explains Why He Didn’t Consider WWE Return In 2009

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett has opened up about why he never considered a return to WWE in 2009, despite his strained relationship with TNA at the time.

Speaking on his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett was asked by co-host Conrad Thompson if he ever thought about reaching out to then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon to discuss a potential comeback. Jarrett admitted the thought never crossed his mind, pointing to his age as the key factor.

“Think about it. [I was] 42 years old in 2009. Vince doesn’t hire 42-year-olds and goes with them as a talent, he just doesn’t,” Jarrett explained. “In my mind, Vince has no use for a guy over 40 because that’s just where his head was at. I don’t think it’s a rationalisation, but that’s a part of it.”

At the time, Jarrett had temporarily distanced himself from TNA following backstage tensions involving Kurt Angle and Dixie Carter. Although he stepped away from the promotion in 2008, he returned in 2009 after a brief hiatus.

Despite the internal turmoil, Jarrett continued to be a major presence in TNA, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. He remained with the company until 2014, helping to shape its direction during a critical period.

While a WWE return might have seemed logical to some fans, given Jarrett’s history, the veteran wrestler made it clear that he never viewed it as a realistic option at the time.

What Did Jeff Jarrett Say AJ Styles Leaving Meant For TNA?

Jeff Jarrett spoke about the importance of AJ Styles leaving TNA Wrestling in 2014 and what it meant for the company. Jarrett said that Styles’ decision to leave the company had a massive impact on TNA’s fanbase, as he believes older fans of the company will likely have given up on the product, given that Styles was one of the original pillars of the company as he was what Jarrett called “the anchor of the X-Division.”
