Jeff Jarrett Shares Emotional Message Ahead Of Owen Hart Tournament
Jeff Jarrett has delivered an emotional promise ahead of his participation in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
The memorial tournament was first announced in September 2021 to honour the late Owen Hart’s legacy and contributions to the wrestling business whilst supporting the Owen Hart Foundation, led by Owen’s widow Dr. Martha Hart.
Previous victors in the mens tournament are Adam Cole and RIcky Starks, whilst Dr Britt Baker and Willow Nightingale have claimed glory in the womens competition.
Owen Hart’s former tag team partner and friend Jeff Jarrett was recently announced as a competitor in the tournament and he delivered a passionate promo ahead of his participation on the 22nd June edition of AEW Collision:
“When I was asked officially about being in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, all the emotion came back. It’s hard for me to imagine it’s been 25 years, but there’s so many things about Owen that I remember like it was yesterday. In the late 90s, we could become tag team champions. I look back on those days as favourite days of my career.
His passing in May 1999, May 23, on that Monday, the following day, I made a promise to myself, that I would be able to look Oje and Athena [Owen’s children] in their eyes when it really meant something. They were little kids when it happened. To let them know what a great man their father is….I’ve never met anybody like him.”
Jarrett also noted that he was drawing inspiration from the passing of another close friend, country music legend Toby Keith, whilst promising victory when the tournament draws to a close during the 10th July edition of AEW Dynamite emanating from Owen Hart’s home city of Calgary:
“I’m a 12-time former world heavyweight champion.I’m a two-time Hall of Famer. The Owen means more to me than anything I’ve ever done.
Earlier this year, Toby Keith passed away, another good buddy of mine. He had that song, about as good as I once was, but I’m good once as I ever was. To get the opportunity to win three matches and stand in the middle of the ring in Owen’s hometown of Calgary, I’m absolutely going to do it.”
Jeff Jarrett Faces Wait To Learn Owen Hart Tournament Opponent
