Jeff Hardy Cried After WWE Pitch To Re-Sign Him

Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy has revealed why turned down a WWE return.

WWE released Jeff Hardy in December 2023, after what was described as erratic behaviour at a live event. Although a drug test later showed that Hardy wasn’t using any prohibited substances or under the influence, he was already out of the company.

However, before he arrived in AEW, WWE made a late bid to re-sign him, offering a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Speaking to Busted Open Radio, Hardy recalled crying after turning down the offer, explaining that they couldn’t imagine being inducted into the Hall of Fame without his brother Matt who was already working for AEW.

“I cried after that phone call. I was just thinking about all the really cool moments I’ve given to the pro-wrestling world. I’m so proud of it, but it didn’t feel right at all. So, I just wanted to wait. If I did do this, I’m definitely doing that with Matt.”

Jeff Hardy Admits “Guilt” Over AEW Run

During the same interview, Jeff Hardy admitted he has “so much guilt and shame from AEW” giving him an opportunity only for him to “break that trust” with his personal issues.

Just three months after joining AEW, Hardy was suspended after being arrested for driving under the influence. The arrest scuppered plans for a World Tag Team Title run, and although he eventually returned to action in April 2023, he never recaptured his earlier momentum.
