JBL Claims WWE Contract Speculation 100% Wrong

JBL WWE

WWE Hall of Famer JBL has hit out at speculation about their current contract status and says everything he’s read has been wrong.

JBL has been associated with WWE for much of the last three decades but now it seems the star is spreading his wings. Using his real name of John Layfield, the WWE Hall of Famer has appeared recently in TNA by the side of current TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth, as well as AAA, GCW, and OVW.

One report gave some insight into how WWE felt about JBL’s recent excursions but the star thinks you can’t believe everything you read.

Speaking in a Q&A for Sportskeeda Wrestling, JBL refused to reveal if he was under a WWE contract or not but did say the speculation he’s seen about his status is all wrong:

I’m gonna answer this as politically correct — not politically correct — as correct for me as possible. I’ve never answered a question about my contract and I can tell you 100 percent for this, I’ve seen speculation about me on the internet. It’s all wrong. 100 percent wrong.

I’m not gonna answer whether I am or not because WWE has always had a confidentiality clause in it and I’ve never thought it was good business to discuss my contract or anybody else’s and so, I’m sorry but I refuse to answer – I will say that the speculation about me has been wrong.

JBL Still Loyal To WWE

JBL was asked if he’d ever be interested in an appearance in AEW and the former WWE Champion noted that like his other surprise run-ins he wouldn’t tell anyone if he was scheduled to turn up in Tony Khan’s ring although his loyalty to WWE would probably stop that happening anyway:

I didn’t tell anybody I was going to these other promotions. I wouldn’t tell anybody if I was going there (AEW) either so, I have no idea. I’ve always been a lifelong WWE guy and so, I’ve always been loyal to the WWE and so, probably not. But, as they say, you never say never.

WWE gave me my big break. Everything I have right now is because of WWE and I’m an incredibly loyal person, you know, to the institution. They have been wonderful to me. I mean, absolutely wonderful to me. I could never see myself being somewhere else. Now, I’m not saying that wouldn’t happen but, that association for me, I mean… almost 30-year association that I’ve got.

JBL’s last run of note in WWE ended in February 2023 when his short-lived on-screen association with Baron Corbin came to an abrupt end.
